I have lived in Sydney all my life but I feel like there are so many activities that I take for granted here. With the warm spring weather upon us, I have decided to make my ultimate “Discover Sydney” bucket list of activities I want to complete, and not just say I am going to do it!
Here’s what made my Top 10:
Sculptures by the Sea
Picnic at the Royal Botanical Gardens
Stand up paddle boarding
Berowra to Brooklyn bushwalk
Beach picnic at Patonga – apparently the best fish & chips around!
Glamping at Cockatoo Island
Discover some new secret small beaches around Sydney
Bondi to Bronte walk
The Three Sisters walk – ok so it’s a little outside Sydney but still a spectacular view
The Open Air Cinema at Sydney Harbour

The other day when I got home from work, I was dying for something sweet, something salty and something that I could munch on whilst mindlessly watching trashy TV after a hard days work. Enter my new addiction to homemade popcorn. Cooks in about the same amount of time as the microwave variety, is a ton cheaper to make and much better for your waistline (flavouring dependant obviously). You can mix and match any flavour variety but on this occasion I went for a salty, spicy, sweet concoction of cinnamon, nutmeg, chilli powder, sea salt and maple syrup – yum!
Spicy Cinnamon Popcorn:
½ cup popping kernels
Oil & table salt (as per the cooking instructions)
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
1 tsp. chilli powder
1 tbsp. sea salt flakes
2 tbsp. maple syrup
To make this popcorn, simply follow the instructions on your packet. DON’T forget to put the lid on the saucepan. It won’t end well for you!
In the meantime get a big mixing bowl and add the spices and sea salt and combine.
Once popcorn has finished doing its thing in the saucepan, remove the lid carefully and pour the fluffy contents into your mixing bowl.
Slowly and patiently start to mix the popcorn with the spices. Once you have given the popcorn a good toss with the flavours, slowly start adding the maple syrup and continue to stir with a spatula or wooden spoon.
Once well coated, take to the lounge, turn on your favourite trashy TV and enjoy!
Currently I have a little bit of a crush on pencil skirts – leather, floral, digital print, you name it and I want it. There is something so classic, so polished yet so fresh and modern about a pencil skirt. They can be worn for pretty much any occasion and more importantly they are utterly flattering. Here are a few of my favourite pencil skirts of the moment:
Welcome to Autumn! What a way to welcome the new season with a gloomy, rainy and cold day. I am super excited to hit the town with some of my favourite girls tonight, and I am even more excited to be spending a much needed lazy weekend at home with my husband. Lately we have been really busy with birthday’s, christenings, catch ups and life in general so this weekend of nothingness is very much required.
Tonight we are heading to The Botanist in Kirribilli, a fairly new boutique bar that is quickly making a name for itself for serving up amazing cocktails and delicious food (I’ll be sure to fill you all in on my experience). Another reason for my excitement is that I am debuting my new leather pencil skirt. I have been waiting for the right occasion to bust this baby out and tonight feels like it may be the right time. But most of all, I love any excuse to go out with my girls for a cocktail or two and catch up on all the latest happenings.
For the weekend I have a few low-key projects I want to complete, mainly organising my accessories and trialling a few new recipes I have been collecting. I also want to clean out my wardrobe and work out what I need for the new seasons. But to be honest I would be happy just to indulge in a complete lazy weekend.
Rainy weather and a lazy weekend at home to me means cooking something cosy, the consuming of good wine, watching DVDs on the couch with my blanket and lots of laughing.
Happy Friday everyone and here’s to a fantastic, rainy weekend!
I was in my local bookshop, Novella Fine Books, the other day and came across these two new numbers:
I love Nigella for how easy and fuss free her cooking is and Bill’s simple and fresh take on Australian food. Both these books are on my hit list!
Novella is one of those shops you can get lost in for hours. They stock the most beautiful coffee table books and obviously some amazing cookbooks. Novella also sell little gifts and stock candles galore! My favourite at the moment is a pink peony scented number that is so sweet and divine. I must report back on the brand as it has slipped my mind!
We are now well and truly into Spring and that means Summer is just around the corner. I don’t know about anyone else but I have definitely put on a few kilos over the winter period and desperately need to start shedding these before we are in beach season (I am one to wait for extremely hot weather before venturing to the white sands).
One thing you should know about me, I am really good at planning, writing checklists and buying special food/clothes to get motivated to lose weight and increase my general well-being however I am notoriously bad at putting these into practice! I have set up a board on my favourite site,Pintrest, which is filled with little workouts and healthy food options that are sure to stimulate weight loss and increase energy levels should they be followed.
After flossing the life out of my poor gums at lunch today due to an article I read online regarding tips to losing weight, I felt that I needed something a little less radical and a little more sensible. I have for that reason enlisted the help of Lauren Conrad or ‘LC’ to her friends. LC has explained to me how to shape up and be the best I can be via her blog and as a result ensure that I am Summer ready this year. I have decided to start with the 7 Days to Skinny Jeans plan followed by her Bikini Boot Camp. Partly because I am a fan of any fad and partly because I figure if it works for her, it’s got to work for me right? We’ll soon find out as I am starting tomorrow with her Skinny Jeans plan.
